Perspective ~ it always seems to come back to perspective.

Isn't it powerful how when we step away from our everyday lives and have a moment to see the world from other perspectives, we shift our relationship to it?  Standing high on top of Georgia's Stone Mountain with a cool fall breeze chilling my ears, no laundry in sight, no emails, no task list...the day looks, feels, and is experienced differently.  What, from that view, can I bring back to my laundry, my emails, my task lists and the multitude of commitments I've made?

My ears were chilled and I felt present.  My lungs were filled and I knew depth of my effort. My eyes saw a vision so much greater than the one I tend to operate in.

For today, I choose to feel, to breath and experience depth, and to hold the vision of 'so much greater' than 'my' world.

I wonder, what perspectives broaden your visions lately.  Join me on a hike?

...it's BIG, this parenting thing, momentous even

Recently was driving and in some ache about some very circumstancial things with my kids that I have absolutely no control over and the nudge (more like a command) was that it's time to begin blogging for OptiMOM Coaching ... sooner than later, sharing the truths that have been revealed to me over the years of mothering and lessons I'm learning still.  The words that came to mind immediately following the nudge to write were "be afraid, be very afraid".

I'm generally not a fear person ...I don't tend to be scared or worry.  Long ago, 1st or 2nd kid in, realizing that worry is, indeed, like praying for what I don't want AND that the kids sense worry, leaving them to experience less safety and trust.  I have great faith and walk with incredible confidence (thanks to many people, especially my parents).  The "afraid" definition here is like the "fear" as in "God fearing" or a "Fear of God" like fear...it's BIG, this parenting thing, momentous even.   The message "here" then is that this mothering / parenting thing, well...it's HUGE.   It's HARD too.  I'm torn, healed, beautifully scarred and marked as I walk in this BIG and beautiful journey of motherhood.  If you're new to this journey or just considering it, know that to do "this" authentically and sincerely, the role you're accepting and committing to is to be respected and know too that you will be asked for more than you knew you had or thought you agreed to.   You can't "get ready" for the whole journey.  You can't know yet what you need to know next decade...it's not time yet.  You can, however, trust you'll learn and you'll not walk alone.

"Making the decision to have a child is momentous.  It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body."  ~Elizabeth Stone
